The N85 is Nokia’s next N series phone to hit the market and the good news is that Nokia N85 is launched today in the UK. The phone has been described as some as a new style N95. Lets take a look at what it can do.

Just like the Nokia N95, the N85 is a dual slider phone. Slide the phone upwards and you reveal a numeric keypad, while sliding the phone down will reveal multimedia keys. The N85 sits above an N79 in features and below in specs that the new N96 has. However, the price also reflects that making the N85 a good choice should you not be willing to spend more for the more flashy N96.

The screen is OLED which provides you with a nice bright clear image as well as using less battery power which is a requirement for these types of multimedia computer/phones. The N85 has a 5 megapixel camera built in with the regular Carl Zeiss lens. A dual LED flash helps you get the right image in duller conditions. Autofocus is also built in allowing sharp images to be snapped at any distance. To protect the lens from scratches, an active cover has been included that automatically loads up the software when you slide the cover off. Video can also be taken on this phone at 30 frames per second.

On the music side you will be happy that it has all the regular music features of the other N series phones in it’s class. With the dedicated keys on the slider it also gives easier access to be able to skip tracks, pause etc… A 3.5mm jack plug allows you to use your own headphones. If you don’t feel like using headphones to listen to music then you can make use of the N85’s built in FM transmitter. What this little device does is allow you to tune in a close by radio to the frequency on the phone and you can listen to your N85’s music over the radio.

The Nokia N85 uses the N-Gage gaming service to run. Fifteen demos are included on the phone and you have a code that will activate one of them for free. The buttons on the phone are not fixed to one application either. If you open the slider and start a game then the relevant buttons will be shown. I find this to be a nice touch to the N85.

The phone is jam packed with goodies and measures 103×50×16mm making it smaller then the N95. It weighs just 125 grams which isn’t too bad either. The N85 runs v9.3 of Symbians operating system with Feature Pack II installed. GPS can also be found in this device allowing you to track yourself with in meters. GPS is also capable of being used to Geo-tag photo’s which is a cool feature usable on services such as Flickr. Memory capacity can be increased up to 8GB via a MicroSD slot.

There isn’t really anything to fault with the N85 and should you not want to stretch for the N96 price wise then the N85 is ideal for you.

As Samsung’s second 8-megapixel digital camera phone (Samsung’s first 8-MP phone is Samsung INNOV8), the Samsung PIXON (a.k.a Samsung M8800), is a powerful multimedia phone that can play high-definition Movies in DivX and Xvid file formats, work as a GPS navigation system with its built-in GPS receiver, play MP3 music and output the music through its SRS (Surround Sound System) Virtual 5.1CH, and take high-quality pictures and videos with its built-in 8-megapixel digital camera / camcorder plus anti-shake, flash, and other features. Besides that, the phone also features a big 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen that supports intuitive navigation technology.

The good thing is we probably won’t have to wait too long to get our hands on a full review unit to bring you our final thoughts on the 8-megapixel touchscreen phone. The Pixon is expected to be available first in France in mid October followed by the other European and Asian countries. No pricing details have been announced.
